Flights to Cuba

What’s the scoop with flights to Cuba?

Restored commercial flights between the US and Cuba are now closer to reality, as eight airlines have so far applied for permission. Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, jetBlue, Southwest Airlines, Frontier Airlines and Silver Airways have applied in response to the US Department of Transportation’s invitation last month.

Tell me more about the proposed flights to Cuba…

There will be up to twenty daily round-trip flights between the US and Cuba’s capital Havana, with up to 110 daily round-trip flights between the island nation and select US cities in the near future waiting to be allocated to airlines.

The largest US carrier, American Airlines, has applied to operate ten daily flights between Miami and Havana, in addition to flights from Charlotte, Los Angeles, Chicago and Dallas/Fort Worth. Plus flights originating from Miami to Santa Clara, Holguin, Varadero, Camaguey and Cienfuegos have also been proposed by AA.

What else do I need to know about the flights to Cuba?

The US Department of Transportation is expected to allocate the available route authorities before the end of summer, 2016.
