Come July 8th Etihad Guest will change the earning and redemption rates for Etihad Guest Miles. Etihad Guest miles will generally slightly easier to earn (depending on which fare class you fly).
Redemptions, especially short and medium haul (where Etihad Guest used to have the most value), will go up by 50%. In addition to that Etihad guest will now levy a charge for each sector in a redemption.
US$ 50 per sector when traveling in Economy Class, US$ 100 per sector in Business Class and US$ 150 per sector in First Class
Etihad traditionally had no fuel surcharge so this does not replace it (as Etihad claims).
The good news – partner redemption will NOT change. I have listed some of the best value partner redemptions with Etihad Guest last year.
This hasn’t changed too much – the only trouble is to convince the Etihad call center agents that the partner is really a partner and which fare class they have to look for.
Etihad Guest miles weren’t a big part of my Miles & Point strategy so far and it won’t change for the better now.
