Tell me about Acela Express…
The Acela Express is Amtrak’s high-speed train along the Northeast Corridor. This rail service runs between Washington DC and Boston and stops at these stations along the way:
- New York City
- New Haven
- New London
Acela Express trains are the fastest passenger trains in the Americas, reaching speeds of up to 150 mph (240 km/h) when in service. They annually carry millions of passengers.
Acela Express offers two classes of service – first class and business class; you won’t find economy here! Onboard, there’s free Wifi, spacious leather seating with power outlets and dining options that include a fine-dining at-seat menu service for first class passengers. During peak morning and afternoon rush hours, Acela offers an hourly service downtown to downtown.
First class ticket-holders receive a complimentary meal from the rotating at-seat menu, as well as a choice of beverage and hot towels. There are breakfast, lunch and dinner selections offered throughout the day. First class perks also include newspapers and privileged access to the ClubAcela lounges in Boston, New York, Philadelphia and Washington.
A visit to Café Acela gives both business class and first class passengers a bistro experience. Freshly-prepared sandwiches, salads, snacks and craft beers are ready in minutes and many of the options cost less than $8.
Why choose Acela? It offers comfortable travel while allowing you to be productive on the move and can often save you both time and money – the rail fare is often cheaper than a flight.
What else do I need to know about the Acela Express deal?
Deals for this rail service are few and far between, so grab an offer like this when you see it!
If you have AAA, you can usually get a 10% weekend discount on Acela Express trains, but you can’t combine offers, so if you’re booking Saturday travel it’s currently better to use the above 25% off discount.
