What’s the Chase Freedom Calendar?
Chase Freedom credit cardmembers earn unlimited 1% cashback on all purchases, but an additional 4% cashback on up to $1,500 spent in bonus categories which change quarterly. That means for the bonus buys, you can earn up to $75 cashback ($15 cashback plus $60 bonus cashback) per quarter.
You need to activate each new 5% cashback category in order to earn the bonus cashback. You can sign up for text message or email activation reminders by logging into your Chase Freedom account or just save a reminder to your own online calendar. You can even print out the Chase Freedom Calendar here.
Can I earn miles or points instead with the Chase Freedom credit card?
You certainly can. You earn Chase Ultimate Rewards with the Chase Freedom card. Instead of taking $300 back in cashback every year (at the maximum of $75 a quarter), you can transfer the points to a Chase Sapphire Preferred, Chase Ink Bold or Chase Ink Plus card if you have one (or if your spouse/domestic partner does) and then from there to airline or hotel partners.
If you spend the maximum of $1,500 each quarter, you will earn 7,500 Ultimate Rewards per quarter, so 30,000 Ultimate Rewards by the end of the year, which is often worth much more than $300.
What are the current cashback categories for the Chase Freedom Calendar?
For Q2, which is April to June, the categories are restaurants, Bed Bath & Beyond, H&M and Overstock.com. You can still activate this category as long as you do so by June 14th, 2015.
Q3 will be gas stations (and more to be announced), which you can activate from June 15th, 2015.
What else do I need to know about the Chase Freedom credit card?
