What’s the deal with Virgin America credit card?

There are two Virgin America Visa Signature credit cards, which are both issued by Comenity Capital Bank.

The Virgin America Premium Visa Signature card currently has a sign-up bonus of 15,000 Elevate points when you spend $1,000 on eligible purchases in the first 90 days and has an annual fee is $149 (not waived).

10,000 Elevate points are worth $200 in reward flights and 15,000 Elevate points are worth $300 in reward flights.

Both the Visa Signature and the Premium Visa Signature cards offer these benefits:

  • Earn up to 8 points per dollar spent with Virgin America – 5 points per dollar on the base fare with Elevate and 3 points per dollar by using your card. You also earn 3 points per dollar spent on other Virgin America purchases and 1 point per dollar spent everywhere else.
  • Your first checked bag is free.
  • You get $150 off an annual companion ticket.
  • You save 20% on RED in-flight purchases.
  • Your points never expire.
  • There are no blackout dates or restrictions on reward flights.

The Premium card gives you an extra annual bonus of up to 15,000 status points, which count toward reaching or renewing Silver or Gold Elevate status; for every $10,000 of eligible purchases, you earn 5,000 status points, up to a maximum of 15,000 points.

Also, the Premium card charges no additional fee if you need to change or cancel your non-refundable Virgin America flights.

What else do I need to know about the Virgin America credit card deal?

With a low minimum spend and a sign-up bonus that’s better than it first looks (as Elevate points are worth around 2x regular miles), the Virgin America credit card offers seem pretty good choices – especially the Premium card.

The higher annual fee of the Premium card is worth it, as it covers the extra bonus points you receive as well as the extra benefits you get, especially additional status points. Plus the waived cancellation/change flight fees is a great perk.
