Paying your Citibank Credit Card with a Gift Card

I received quite a number of emails regarding my manufactured spend guide regarding the option to pay your Citibank credit card with a gift card.

Apparently, this is even easier than I thought – the BB&T Visa gift cards work as well when paying off your balance with Citi. These cards can be bought in many locations and come with just a $3.95 activation fee.

Here is what reader J. writes:

I just called Citi and paid my new CitiBusiness AAdvantage MasterCard with debit cards. So, I get 53,000+ bonus AA miles. Thank you for the excellent tip.

I went to the Galleria Dallas mall service desk and bought their VISA gift cards issued by BB&T Bank. I called to activate and set the same PIN for all of them. It is managed but not owned by Simon.

Now, I no longer have to go to Walmart or Kroger to buy money orders to deposit. Even faster funds recycling (MS).

Don’t let anyone tell you that only MasterCard gift cards will work.

Thanks for sharing your experience Jerry!

Did you try to pay your credit card balance with any issuer like Barclay, Chase, Wells Fargo, Discover, Capital One, Comerica or US Bank? Can you share your story?
