Holiday Inn Vancouver-Centre (Broadway) Review

I spent last week in Vancouver and stayed at the Holiday Inn Vancouver at Broadway for two days.

Vancouver in September is an expensive hotel market and most hotels in the downtown area charge $200+ for regular rooms. Broadway is 4 stops from downtown via the SkyTrain line (which also runs to the airport). I actually preferred the area in comparison to the downtown island.

I opted to use 20,000 IHG points in lieu of paying the room rate.

I showed up at 9AM for check-in and my upgraded Executive Room wasn't ready yet. So I just did the pre-check-in and left my bag for later. The hotel staff were extremely friendly and welcoming - it was very apparent from my first interaction.

After 6PM I returned and got my keys handed to me in seconds. My bag showed up 30 seconds later.

The door lock puzzled me though. You will need to slide the key card VERY slowly through the reader - something I wasn't prepared for. Eventually I figured it out though and a very spacious room presented itself to me. The hotel recently went through a big renovation and the room seemed very new.

The bathroom was certainly above normal North American standards and the bed was firm and huge. The patio also provided an awesome view towards Vancouver downtown.

Since my rate did not include breakfast I didn't venture into the restaurant. There is an excellent Elysian coffee shop on the other side of the street and 'La Taqueria' is a one of the best rated eateries of Vancouver - again just a block away.

The Holiday Inn is a great option for a city excursion to Vancouver - I'd be happy to stay again!
