An introduction to Virgin Australia – Velocity Frequent Flyer, Award Chart, Award Availability, Fuel Surcharges & Destinations
Airline Name: Virgin Australia
Frequent-flyer program: Velocity Frequent Flyer
– Auckland Airport
– Brisbane Airport
– Melbourne Airport
– Sydney Airport
Fuel surcharges applied?
Velocity Frequent Flyer applies fuel surcharges to all award redemptions. Low fuel surcharges can be found on Velocity partners Etihad, Singapore Airlines, Air Berlin, Hawaiian and SilkAir.
How to find award availability?
Virgin Australia shows on delta.com. Other partners can be looked up on their respective websites. This is cumbersome so consider calling in.
The call center recently flatly denied seeing any partner seat on Etihad though Etihad had it available in the lowest category. Neither the agent nor the supervisor would hear it. They kept telling me I was looking at revenue flights and they could not see any seat on Etihad.
This gets frustrating quickly. Don't get frustrated. Keep calling back and hope for the best – ask for 'long sells' – some agents will know what to do while others will hang up on you.
