As you may have guessed I'm a big fan of The Amazing Race. In Season 19 one of the pit stops was in Yogyakarta at the Sultan Palace. The sultan is the only remaining sultan in Indonesia and prior monarchs have had the ranks of vice president or prime minister in the Indonesian (elected) government.

The entrance fee is a cheap $1 and that includes a free sarong (should you be wearing short pants) and an English guide. There isn't too much to see but the area also hosts Water Castle with its underground mosque which is a real sight! (more about this in tomorrow's post).
