This collection of small alleys, known as Kuan Zhai Xiang Zi or Kuanzhai Ancient Street of Qing Dynasty, is one of the major tourist attractions in Chengdu. It's probably more known with Chinese tourists than foreigners though. The area features a collection of historic houses with shops, restaurants, cafes and bars.

If you have been to Back Lakes (Hou Hai) in Beijing you can imagine how it looks like. It's very well maintained and with the lights at nights looks pretty cool.

However on the cold days in Chengdu (not that many fortunately) bring a couple of extra layers since none of the buildings has a working heating and most seating areas are outside.

Most major Chinese cities have an area like this - it's almost like an historic shopping mall. But it's fun to hang out here for a while and let the old China get to you in a comfortable environment.
