The IHG Big Win promotion – my results & recap

Posted on February 20, 2014 by in IHG Rewards Club

I really liked the 'Big Win' promotion IHG put out for 2014.

For me 94,600 were on offer and I had to complete the following challenge:

6 nights
4 IHG Rewards Club brands
1 stay with Best Flexible Rate incl. breakfast
3 stays booked through the website
2 stays Saturday night
2 Holiday Inn stays

I have now received all but the last 3,400 points. The 'Win big' points have posted for me already though.

In total I earned 134,461 points with IHG so far this year.

Holiday Inn 2x (Bangkok, San Francisco)
Holiday Inn Express 3x (San Francisco, Mountain View, Chengdu)
Staybridge Suites 1x (Fairfield, CA)
Crowne Plaza 1x (San Francisco)

The average cost was $97.56 per night + tax. My challenge required 6 nights but I had 7 as I needed a hotel for an additional night. The cheapest stay was the one in the Holiday Inn Express Chengdu Westgate for just $32/night. The most expensive night was at the Holiday Inn in Bangkok with $134/night as it required a Flexible + Breakfast Rate.

All but one stay posted automatically.

I earned almost 40,000 points from IHG bonus codes.

Since I'm ready to spend $100 per night anyways on hotels and I really need to buy hotel nights the promotion had no real cost to me. The 134,461 points can give me almost 27 free nights as part of IHG PointBreaks promotions (yes I have to find a matching hotel with my travel plans though).

I'm very pleased with this promotion! I hope IHG brings it up again!

You can still participate in the promotion until April 30th.
