This used to be too good to be true. You cold get Marriott Gold or Platinum for 3 months just by calling Customer Service. It would be ok to do that every 12 months – giving you 3 months of status every year.
However Marriott got overwhelmed by request once the secret got out. I have a number of Marriott stays coming up (primarily because the Marriott LNF rates were fantastic).
I sent in a request today mentioning my Top Tier status with Starwood and Hilton and this is what I got:
Dear Torsten Jacobi,
Thank you for contacting Marriott Rewards.
Unfortunately, we cannot offer an Elite challenge at this time. Please stay the required number of nights this year to receive your desired Elite status.
You can view the Elite membership requirements by visiting the following internet link:
Please reply to this email if I can be of any further assistance.
Thank you for choosing Marriott.
So it seems there really is no status challenge or match anymore. Too bad.
