Oneworld Member LAN operates in most South American countries and has established itself as an efficient, premium player a notch above most other players in their local markets.

LAN Peru, LAN Chile, LAN Argentina, LAN Brazil are operated separately but all use the same standard equipment.

LAN Peru can get you almost anywhere in South America. I used 25,000 Avios for the 4 hour flight in Business Class between Lima and Buenos Aires. I was able to book the whole itinerary online.

Lima airport is small but check-in was quick and efficient. The security check was equally quick. Curb to lounge (incl. check-in, immigration and walk) was done in less than 10 minutes.

LAN uses the SUMAQ VIP LOUNGE in the International Terminal. Now the lounge was voted best Priority Pass – Best Lounge in 2010. When you walk into it – it's not exactly clear why anymore.

It's crowded and the furniture is tired. There are a number of cold/warm appetizers – none looking particularly appetizing to me. There is also the standard drink options for your desire.

There is a nice, sunny outdoor patio though that is pretty unique for an airport lounge. On the plus side there is also a machine that squeezes fresh orange juice for lounge users.

The WiFi is really slow though.

However the time for boarding came quickly and I took my seat in 5A. The business class cabin was almost completely full.

LAN has all mid/long range aircraft equipped with the same business class seat. It's a fully lie-flat seat that gives you ample space. The only issue can be the climb over somebody else's foot to go to the bathroom. I had no seat neighbor so no troubles on this flight.

The flight attendants came through with champagne and nuts several times before take off. Since we were on time so much there wasn't much time to drink.

LAN's entertainment system did not start until 10,000 feet – I'm always puzzled why airlines do that – why not start the system on the ground?

The lunch service sprung into action quickly after that.

I really liked my choice – the steak; as well as the dessert. There Argentine wine was excellent! There were 2 more wine choices which also looked delicious.

I had made use of LAN during my trip to Easter Island last year – I really enjoyed all my flights with LAN at the time.

I can't say anything different this time at least for LAN Peru. It's very efficient, well run flights. The crew and flight attendants seem to know what they are ding and ground staff is reasonably friendly. It feels a bit like a no-frills premium airlines. Probably exactly what the South American markets wants 🙂
