Although Hyatt is by far my preferred hotel brand, with only 600 properties throughout the world, there are many areas where they are not very well represented. IHG/Priority Club is a hotel chain with a huge footprint throughout the world. Starting at the top with their Intercontinental Hotels all the way down to Candlewood Suites, you can almost always find an IHG branded hotel no matter where you go.
Every once in a while, they roll out some great incentives to stay at their hotels, and currently, IHG is having a dynamite promotion where they've offered me over 78,000 points if I complete several tasks. These include filling out a short survey, trying three of their hotel brands by 12/31/13 and using their Priority Club Chase Visa card to pay for any of these stays. There are a few other requirements that are shown below.
The pot is further sweetened by all of the crazy add-on promotions that IHG allows you to attach to these stays. A full list of these "promo codes" can be found here.
After doing the math, I realized that fulfilling all of these requirements for the Big Win, plus adding on these promo codes would net me over 100,000 points. For some perspective, 50,000 points books you into their top tier Intercontinental hotels, which routinely go for $400-$600 a night. After tallying up the 6 hotel nights that I'd need to complete this promotion, I was only going to be paying just under $700 to complete the requirements to earn 100,000 points (worth a conservative $800 value) and get six hotel nights out of it.
I understand that it's not everyone's idea of a good time to spend $700 on anything… but if you need to stay at hotels anyway, it might be a good idea to start moving your stays to IHG for the remainder of the year.
