I just discovered BAT – the Bay Area Traveler. And he's been compiling a number of posts of with route updates.
United is pulling the aging 747 from the Melbourne and Sydney routes. That's great news for Economy passengers but not so great news for award travelers since the business and first cabins will be smaller on the refurbished 777. SFO-SYD awards were always hard to find – seems it will get harder.
The one route that always had award space over the Pacific is San Francisco – Osaka – United is planning to use the 787 there from on April 2014. Award space has promptly vanished 🙁
United also plans a new non-stop to Chengdu, China but it's not yet bookable on united.com
ANA has resumed 787 flights from San Jose (just 20 miles off SFO) to Tokyo a couple of months ago. Availability isn't bad. I'm hoping to be on one of those flights soon.
It's not clear if Singapore Airlines will bring back the A380 over the Pacific to Seoul.
LAN will cancel their 787 service from SFO from on April 1st 2014. Award space was always tight but I secured a spot a while ago.
Norwegian is planning an Oakland (just across the bay from SFO) service from Oslo. Let's see if it really materializes.
