New Star Alliance Lounge to Open at LAX

New Star Alliance Lounge to Open at LAX

LAX Lounge

In my experience flying through LAX, many of the lounges tend to be overcrowded, understaffed, or simply unappealing. The new Star Alliance lounge in the Tom Bradley Int'l Terminal at LAX opening TOMORROW, September 25th, aims to fix that. It is branded as an Air New Zealand lounge, but it has clearly been designed to accommodate the larger masses of Star Alliance Gold members as well as first class flyers.

Here's a quick rundown of the lounge specs (via Staralliance.com):

First Class: 42 Seats
Business Class: 387 Seats
Outdoor terrace and bar
A wide range of seating options
Fast, free and unlimited Wi-Fi internet access
Wireless printing and local telephone calls are available on request
Variety of complimentary hot and cold food and beverages
A wide range of Californian wines
Complimentary bar
Showers and restroom facilities
Flight information displays
Fully accessible to disabled travellers
Luggage storage area
Media room with international news and sports channels
No smoking lounge

What stands out to me here are the showers, though there are only eight, and the outdoor terrace. It sounds very unique compared to the rest of the LAX lounges, and makes me think that the next wave of airport design will continue to incorporate outdoor areas, as evidenced with this lounge as well as the recent Delta SkyClub in Atlanta which has an outdoor area. My guess is that it will also be very crowded for the first few months! Personally, I will be checking it out in a couple months on a flight to Asia; but if you happen to be swinging by sooner than that, feel free to leave your opinions in the comments!
