Singapore Airlines Singapore (SIN) – Istanbul, Turkey (IST) Business Class Review

Posted on April 3, 2013 by in Travel Deals

This article is part of my trip report 'Westward bound'. The trip report index will appear below once all posts have been published.

I booked this flight because Aeroplan has limited access to Singapore Airlines Business Class inventory (as a Star Alliance partner) but does not charge a fuel surcharge for Singapore Airlines flights.

Now the 777-200 are the few remaining old business class seats that Singapore Airlines labelled 'Space beds'. It's a seat that does recline almost 180 degrees but does not form a flat bed like in their newer business class cabins.

There is no first class on this route. Also Istanbul is the last flight of the day of the many westbound destinations Singapore Airlines has. 1.45 AM is pretty late and I did try everything to keep myself awake in the excellent Singapore Airlines lounge.

Once I sat in my seat I gave in to sleep immediately and only woke up over Eastern Turkey about 8 hours later. So although the seat does not go fully flat you can sleep well if you are tired enough πŸ™‚ I think this seat is on par with Qantas business class in their A380 (though the Qantas seat is more spacious) or Thai Airways' Business Class seat in the 747.

Singapore Airlines has stellar service and so it was during this flight. The flight attendants had no issue preparing my dinner meal when I wanted and served a delicious meal just when I was hungry.

There is a decent screen (12 inches?) that comes with an older version of Singapore's entertainment system. It stills has a wide selection of Hollywood movies.

Just a bit later breakfast service began. I'm not a big fan of breakfast so I just tried some items for you to see πŸ™‚

Landing was perfectly on time into a brisk, sunny Istanbul morning.

Singapore Airlines is currently upgrading all 777-200 in 2013 to the new seats. It remains to be seen if they will continue to release seats to partners on these flights. I certainly hope so.

If you are looking to redeem Aeroplan points Singapore Airlines is a great option. I outlined the currently available routes in Business here.
