Commencing on 19 January 2013, flights will operate five times a week between Dubai's Terminal 2 and the Maldives' Ibrahim Nasir International Airport on the island of Malé. Bringing flydubai's presence in the Indian Subcontinent to nine points across six countries, the new route will allow travellers from across the region to enjoy affordable fares to one of the world's most renowned leisure destinations.
I was actually looking for flight options DXB-MLE and although it's just a 5 hour flight prices are rarely below $1,000 for the direct return flight. Using miles on Emirates or Eithad is no fun either. Emirates Skywards charges 75k in Business RT and American Airlines 90k in Business RT.
flyDubai's flight times are ok for the outbound (6PM) but not funny for the inbound (1.45 AM departure anyone) – but still it charges only half what Emirates does.
flyDubai may however be able to give you a good fare to some other interesting places like Afghanistan, Iraq and the 'stans.
